Trauma & Relationship Counselling in North Vancouver
Supporting adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, trauma, attachment wounds, and emotional overwhelm.
You’re here because you want more than just getting through the day.
At Soma Clinical Counselling, we support individuals, couples and family navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship distress, and attachment wounds. Our approach integrates somatic therapy, emotion focused, attachment based, and nervous system-informed care to help clients feel more connected, grounded, and emotionally safe. Our North Vancouver therapists provide trauma-informed counselling, somatic therapy, attachment therapy, and online counselling across British Columbia.
At Soma Clinical Counselling, therapy is about more than coping, it’s about coming home to yourself. We believe meaningful change happens when you feel safe enough to explore your emotions, understand your experiences, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been hidden beneath survival, pain, or disconnection.
The name Soma reflects our belief that healing happens through deeper connection to the self, the body, and our emotional world. At Soma Clinical Counselling, located in Lower Lonsdale in North Vancouver, we create a space to explore what’s beneath the surface with curiosity and compassion, creating space for insight, healing, and transformation that feels authentic and lasting.

You feel like you’re constantly “getting through” the day, but not fully living it
Your body feels like its always scanning for what could go wrong, even when things are fine
You find yourself stuck in the same relational patterns, even when you want things to change
Feeling stuck in survival mode: hypervigilance, anxiety, emotional shutdown, or overwhelm
People-pleasing, over functioning, or losing yourself with others (codependent patterns)
Difficulty setting boundaries, without guilt, fear, or disconnection
And Underneath it all…
There may be a quieter truth:
A part of you is tired of surviving this way.
A part of you is ready to understand your patterns—not as problems, but as adaptations.
And a part of you is longing for something more grounded, connected, and secure.
At Soma
Our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches including Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic therapy, Attachment-based therapy, IFS, CBT, and DBT.
We work with these patterns gently and collaboratively, through emotional exploration, attachment-focused therapy, and nervous system awareness—so you can begin to feel more safe within yourself and more connected in your relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
At times, unexpected challenges or crises may arise between sessions that feel difficult to manage on your own. In these situations, brief phone support may be available, depending on your counsellor’s availability. Any between-session calls are billed on a prorated, per-minute basis.
To protect your privacy and ensure you receive the best possible support, we ask that email communication be limited to scheduling and administrative matters. Sensitive or personal concerns are best explored during your sessions, where your counsellor can fully support you.
-
Many people experience a sense of relief after their very first counselling session, especially when they feel heard and understood. As therapy continues, these benefits often build over time, leading to deeper and more meaningful change.
Typically most clients require a minimum of 12-20 sessions and can range upwards.
-
As you begin to explore the deeper layers of your experiences and relationships, emotions that may have been pushed aside or difficult to access can start to emerge. These feelings can sometimes feel intense, unfamiliar, or unsettling.
While this can be challenging, it is also an important part of the healing process. Making space for these emotions allows them to be understood, processed, and integrated in a way that supports meaningful and lasting change.
Your therapist will work closely with you to ensure this exploration feels contained, supportive, and attuned to your capacity, so you can move forward with a greater sense of clarity and stability.
