Individual Counselling
Individual counselling (sometimes called psychotherapy) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Counselling allows individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
Individual counselling is client-centred, building a therapeutic rapport and forming an alliance that enables trust, acceptance, and exploration.
SŌMA Clinical Counselling strives to create a space that feels safe, supportive, and grounded in trust—where clients can truly explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment.
We believe that healing and growth begin with feeling heard and understood, which is why we prioritize compassion, respect, and collaboration in every session.
Whether you're navigating challenges, working through past trauma, or seeking greater self-awareness, Soma provides an environment where vulnerability is met with care, and personal growth is nurtured at your own pace.
In individual counselling, a variety of tools can be developed to support a client’s growth and emotional well-being. These tools often include:
Coping strategies such as mindfulness techniques, relaxation exercises, and emotion regulation skills to help manage stress, anxiety, and mood fluctuations
Cognitive restructuring tools can be introduced to help you identify and challenge negative thought patterns, fostering healthier thinking habits
Goal-setting frameworks and self-monitoring techniques, like journaling or mood tracking, can enhance self-awareness and accountability
Communication skills and assertiveness training may also be developed to improve relationships and self-expression.
